Dr. Sakariassen is a patent-holder as a result of the research he has performed over the last 30 years. In recognition of professional excellence, he was the recipient of the Theodor Naegli Prize, Basel, Switzerland, the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis Congress Award, the OWREN Lecture Prize, Oslo, Norway, the Odd Fellow Prize, Oslo, Norway, Prix Amalthee, Paris, France, and the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis / Scientific Standardization Committee Award. Named a fellow of the American Heart Association, Dr. Sakariassen was also selected for inclusion in Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World.
To prepare for a career in the scientific research field, Dr. Sakariassen attended the University of Tromso, where he achieved a Master of Science in cell biology in 1979. Later, he earned a Ph.D. in medical biology from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, which lead him to postdoctoral endeavors with the University of Washington, Seattle, USA, and F. Hoffmann-LaRoche Ltd, Basel, Switzerland. Today, Dr. Sakariassen remains at the head of his field through his involvement with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and a member of the editorial board of Future Science Open Access.
