Leslie Ritts Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Environmental Law

Ms. Ritts feels that there must be a balance between environmental protection and economic growth



    ALEXANDRIA, VA, April 26, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Leslie Ritts has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An attorney with a specialization in the area of environmental law, Ms. Ritts is highly regarded for her work since establishing her career in 1980. Now the owner of the Ritts Law Group, she spent her early career as a senior attorney with the Environmental Law Institute and an associate for John Quarles at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. Following adoption of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments, she became Counsel at Chadbourne & Parke. In 1994, she became a Partner of Hogan & Hartson LLP, where she served as general counsel for the National Environmental Development Association's Clean Air Project and advised other firm clients on Clean Air Act enforcement and compliance as well as financial transactions. During her tenure at Hogan & Hartson, she was appointed to EPA's Clean Air Act New Source Review Advisory Panel and EPA's Clean Air Act Operating Permit Stakeholder Committee.

Ms. Ritts was raised in Minnesota and her early interest in the environment and the environment's relationship to public health was nurtured early. At Princeton University, she studied politics and its relationship to environmental health issues, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in 1977 with a Certificate in Sciences in Human Affairs. She received a Juris Doctorate from William and Mary Law School in 1980, where she received a National Environmental Award from the American Trial Lawyers Association for the study of statutes of limitation for latent personal injuries caused by environmental exposures. At William & Mary, she and several other students created the law school's Journal of Environmental Law (then the Environmental Practice News). Ms. Ritts was admitted to practice law in the state of Virginia and in Washington, and she is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Federal Courts of Appeals for D.C. and the Ninth Circuits.

In recognition of professional excellence, Ms. Ritts was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women. She maintains professional associations with the American Bar Association and is a coauthor of the 2016 ABA Clean Air Act Manual. She also is a member of the Virginia State and District of Columbia Bars. With an active practice involving Clean Air Act and other environmental issues throughout the U.S., she feels grateful to have been able to practice environmental law.
