MANTI, UT, May 01, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William H. Funk, Ph.D., has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A retired environmental engineering educator, Dr. Funk was a member of the faculty at Washington State University from 1966 until his retirement in 1999. In addition to teaching at the school, he served as chairman of the school's environmental science and regional planning program from 1979 to 1981. From 1980 to 1983, he also worked as director of the Environmental Research Center, and from 1981 until 1999, he directed the State Water Research Center.
As a graduate of the University of Utah, Dr. Funk holds a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences, a Master of Science in zoology, and a Ph.D. in limnology. He was also a research assistant at the University of Utah for two years. Prior to joining the faculty at Washington State University, Dr. Funk taught science and math for Salt Lake City School District.
After serving on active duty aboard the USS Rowan (DD782) as antisubmarine and gunnery officer he joined the Naval Reserve. Throughout a 20-year period he was promoted from Lieutenant to Captain and served as commanding officer of several naval reserve surface divisions in eastern Washington State. He retired from the naval reserve program in 1976.
Dr. Funk also established a reputation as a trusted consultant over the course of his career. He consulted for the Washington Department of Ecology, the Boise Cascade Corporation, and the U.S. Civil Service, among other organizations. Dr. Funk served as a member of the High Level Nuclear Waste Board and the Pure Water 2000 Steering Committee, and is a co-founder and past president of the Terrene Institute.
Noted for his research in water pollution control and lake restoration, Dr. Funk has contributed articles to a number of professional journals. He has held a leadership position as president and board membership positions within many professional organizations, including the North America Lake Management Society, the Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association, the Water Pollution Control Federation, the National Association of Water Institute Directors, and more. His efforts and achievements have been recognized with a number of awards and honors over the years, including a Distinguished Faculty Award from Washington State University, a Friend of Lakes Award from Washington Lakes Protection Association, the Arthur Sidney Bedell Award from the Water Pollution Control Federation, and the Secchi Dish Award from the North American Lakes Management Society.
Dr. Funk's accomplishments have been featured in the 44th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America and the 4th through 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education. He has also appeared in multiple editions of Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the West.
