From its inception in 1969 until its sale in 2011, Mrs. Marsh was the founder, owner and president of MarshMedia, which publishes materials that are both educational and enjoyable for children.
Armed with her studies in Education at the University of Missouri and her Bachelor of Arts in English from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, she started MarshMedia in 1969 in partnership with her husband, Alan Reid Marsh. With her new company, JOAN'S eBOOKS LLC, formed in 2011, she published the lusciously illustrated 25-title eBook series based on the original hardcover MarshMedia children's books. She is also currently in the process of launching her "Thrilling Reading Living Vicariously" Series, which will total 25 titles.
Over the course of her 48 year career, Mrs. Marsh has published a variety of educational series and books for children, including 25 picture eBooks, a set of multicultural stories for children ages 3 through 9, that are the centerpiece of her life's work. Each of these stories features an animal protagonist, a compelling surrounding, and a multicultural life message. Some of the titles are Aloha Potter, Bailey's Birthday which explores the concept of familial love, Emily Breaks Free addressing the hot topic of bullying, and Hana's Year which revolves around peer pressure. Before being released, each story was reviewed by teachers and librarians for relevance and the power of its message. Each story has passed the highest standards.
Although she specializes in children's stories, Mrs. Marsh has also written actively on historical figures. These include Edna St. Vincent Millay, Margaret Queen of Scotland, Nora Ephron, The Last Empress Madame Chiang Kai-shek, David Douglas Duncan, photographer extraordinaire, and Robert Edsel and The Monuments Men, all of which she wrote for the '81 Club, which was formed in 1881 for the purpose of presenting scholarly papers to the membership, avoiding the forbidden topics of the Civil War, politics and religion.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Marsh has been recognized many times for her work in the fields of publishing, philanthropy and community service. Since the mid-1980s, she has been featured in numerous volumes of Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in Media and Communication, and Who's Who in America.
