SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, May 22, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Yiseok Hong has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With a changing world comes changing markets, and it can be difficult to get a grasp on how economic situations change globally. Dr. Hong has been working since the '90s to develop sophisticated mathematical simulations to handle just these circumstances. He seeks to apply his expertise in econometrics and international economics to make South Korea a more advanced country.
Dr. Hong entered the field to understand economic theory and how it influenced Korea. He began at home, earning his bachelor's degree in economics at Seoul National University in 1980. To get an international point of view, he furthered his studies at the University of Rochester, earning a master's degree in economics. He attributes his success to the tutelage of Professors Adrian Pagan, Lionel McKenzie and Ronald Jones at Rochester. It was also during this time that he wrote his Ph.D. thesis on "nonparametric estimation and its applications." Dr. Hong would go on to author several scholarly publications on the technique, which uses complex mathematical models to simulate the effects of economic risk. He is excited to apply his expertise to the use of big data technology like Hadoop and Spark in the fields of finance, dynamic general equilibrium analysis, and macroeconomics.
Though application is his ardent passion, Dr. Hong is also an educator, and began his career as a lecturer in the Department of Economics at the Korean University of Foreign Studies. In 1994 he became a research fellow with Daewoo Research Institute. Today, Dr. Hong can be found teaching at Seokyeong University, where he is the chairman of the Department of Economics and Finance. He has held the role since 1997, interrupted only by a brief sojourn as a visiting scholar at the University of Rochester in 2010. He also holds a joint appointment with the Division of Business Administration as an associate professor. Dr. Hong has also served as editor with the Social Science Review at Seokyeong University since 2015.
Dr. Hong has served as referee of the Korean Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Theory and Econometrics, and the Seoul Journal of Economics. He was an abstract reviewer for the GTAP Conference from 2013 to 2017. He hopes to continue developing correspondence with other economists on an international level.
