After accruing nearly four and a half decades of practiced industry experience, Dr. Babbitt retired from his role as special assistant to the president for Far Eastern Affairs at Brown University. Earlier in his career, he worked as an assistant dean and assistant dean of freshman at Yale College. Over the years, he held a variety of academic roles such as Dean of Men, assistant dean, president, vice president for development, and director of program planning and resources for such institutions as Vanderbilt University, Yale University's School of Graduate Studies, Kirkland College, Brown University, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
An alumnus of Yale College where he received a Bachelor of Arts, and Yale University, where he received a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. in American Studies, Dr. Babbitt maintains affiliations with the Fraternity of Delta Psi, the Century Association and the Actor's Equity Association. During his career, he contributed his extensive knowledge to such creative works as The Forty-Ninth Magician, Limited Engagement: Kirkland College 1965-1978: An Intimate History of the Rise And Fall of a Coordinate College for Women and the film of his wife's book "The Eyes of the Amaryllis," which he helped to produce in 1980. Dr. Babbitt served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for The Feinstein-Gamm Theatre in Providence and Pawtucket, RI, from 1982 to 1992.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army (1948-1951) and served in Korea (1950-51). He was discharged a Master Sergeant, Infantry, and awarded the Silver Star.
Dr. Babbitt has been lauded for his professional accomplishments on many occasions, including earning numerous features in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in the East.
