For more than four decades, Dr. Merini has been highly regarded as an expert in humanities, liberal arts and foreign languages education. Today, she demonstrates her expertise as an associate professor for the department of modern and classical languages at SUNY-Buffalo State, a role that she has held since 1996. Previously, she came to prominence as a visiting instructor for the department of foreign languages and literature at Skidmore College, a visiting instructor of humanities and French at Union College, instructor of French and Spanish at Fort Steilacoom Community College, and lecturer for Pacific Lutheran University. Other noteworthy roles held in Dr. Merini's career include teaching assistant at the University of Washington, teaching assistant at the University of Utah, teaching assistant for the comparative literature department at the State University of New York at Binghamton and teaching assistant for the department of romance languages at Binghamton University. In recognition of her professional excellence, she was the recipient of a grant and a National Defense Student award from the University of Utah.
In addition, she was selected for inclusion into Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
Before establishing herself professionally, Dr. Merini prepared for her career by investing in her education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in romance languages and literature from the University of Utah in 1978 and 1981, respectively. Thereafter, she completed two years of post-graduate studies at the University of Washington in 1982, a certification in translation from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1988 and a Ph.D. in comparative literature from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1992. To stay at the top of her field, she is a member of the Modern Language Association. In addition, Dr. Merini has taken on career opportunities outside of her profession to increase her impact on her industry. She has served as a coordinator of the Buffalo State College women's studies interdisciplinary unit, adviser of the French Club, board member of the Faculty Student Association, and founder of the Troi-Pisotoles French Immersion Program at the University of Western Ontario. As she looks to the future, Dr. Merini intends to continue providing top of the line educational services while taking on new projects and opportunities as they arise.
