Mr. Olschwang is a seasoned attorney who served from 1983 to 2010 as executive vice president, general counsel, director, and executive committee member of Mitsubishi Electric and Electronics Incorporated in America. He was a notable attorney in Chicago prior to his role with Mitsubishi Electric, though Mr. Olschwang is perhaps better known as an author of more than two decades of crosswords and other word puzzles.
A Windy City native, Mr. Olschwang was born in 1942 to Morton James and Ida Olschwang. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and JD Degree from the University of Illinois in the city of Champaign Urbana. There, he married Barbara Claire Miller in August 1965. The couple have three children: Elliot, Deborah, and Jeffrey and six grandchildren (the oldest of which is about to enter law school). Mr. Olschwang passed the bar in Illinois and entered law as a clerk to an Illinois Supreme Court Justice. He served for one year before joining the firm that would become Sidley and Austin, one of the largest corporate law firms in America. Mr. Olschwang went on to Montgomery Ward and Company in 1973 as associate general counsel and assistant secretary. At the time, the company was a legacy mail order business.
In 1981, Mr. Olschwang joined Seki, Jarvis and Lynch in Chicago as a partner. The firm would go on to handle legal matters for a number of Japanese companies in the U.S. In 1983, Mr. Olschwang joined Mitsubishi Electric US in New York City later moving to the company's Cypress, Calif. location. Mitsubishi Electric Japan manufactures and sells electrical and electronic products through a worldwide organization. In total, Mr. Olschwang worked with Mitsubishi Electric for 27 years, from 1983 to 2010. He was admitted to practice in New York and then California upon relocation to those states. He became a neutral arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association while in New York and continues to serve as such.
For legal excellence and decades of dedication, Mr. Olschwang was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, and two volumes of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America from 1987 to 1990.
