SKILLMAN, NJ, June 22, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Richard W. Eiger a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Mr. Eiger celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, noted for his achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Retired publisher for Golden Books, Golden Press, N.Y., Mr. Eiger was blessed with a prosperous career that began in 1958 with Western Publishing Company. Moving up the corporate ladder year after year, he was promoted to director of publishing after 10 years, then to vice president of publishing after another six years. In 1980, Mr. Eiger was offered the opportunity to work for Macmillan, Inc. Serving in the capacity of president of the Macmillan Educational Company and corporate senior vice president, he later transitioned into a new role as publisher of The World Almanac, working out of his Mahwah, New Jersey office, as vice president of K-III Reference Corporation (now PRIMEDIA Reference Corporation). In 1998, Mr. Eiger retired after a total of 40 years in the industry.
Inspired at an early age, Mr. Eiger thought of books similarly to that of toys: a form of interest and amusement for him. Books like "Mother Goose" and "Aesop's Fables" are two that still remain at the forefront of his mind. Mr. Eiger found that working on books and projects as part of a collaborative team, in both electronic and print form, have been equally inspiring -- giving him the drive to continue working in the field for so many years.
Mr. Eiger earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Pratt Institute in 1955, followed by an MBA at New York University in 1960. An avid supporter of his alma mater, he has been serving on the board of directors of the alumni board at Pratt Institute since 1986, as trustee since 1992, on the executive committee since 1995, as secretary since 1996, as chairman of the development committee since 1997 until awarded trusteeship emeritus in 2016. Mr. Eiger also spent time in numerous capacities with several other institutions, including Brandeis University, Katharine Gibbs Business School, and Delaware Institute of Art and Design, served as visiting professor for the School of Information at Pratt Institute from 2004 to 2009.
A former military serviceman, Mr. Eiger exited the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant in 1957. A member of the Historic Society of Princeton and The Old Guard of Princeton, N.J., he stays active with developments in the publishing industry. He recently has finished writing his publishing memoir, titled "Booked for Life".
