Upon graduating, Dr. Halverstadt became an intern, resident in surgery, and the resident in urology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Subsequently, he worked in such roles as clinical professor of urology and pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma Medical School, chief of staff at Oklahoma Children's Memorial Hospital, CEO of the State of Oklahoma Teaching Hospital, and CEO of the State Regents for Higher Education. He was also chairman of the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents.
A diplomate through the American Board of Urology, Dr. Halverstadt affiliates himself with the American College of Surgeons, the American Urological Association, the Society of Pediatric Urology, the American Society of Nephrology and the Southern Medical Association, as well as many others. Throughout his career, he has contributed his knowledge to many articles in medical journals and has been recognized for his work through inclusion into the sixth edition of Who's Who in American Education, eight volumes of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and 12 editions of Who's Who in the World.
