Ann Moliver Ruben Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Ruben has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the psychology industry

PITTSBURGH, PA, June 29, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Ann Moliver Ruben a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Ruben celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Ruben is not only a celebrated psychologist specializing in marriage and family therapy, but she is also a pioneer for women in the sciences in the '60s as well as a leader for women's free speech. Not only did she earn success in academia and private practice, she founded Women Are Wonderful, Inc, to produce her own design of empowering t-shirts. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Dr. Ruben also takes pride in her growing family: she has had three children of her own, and is the grandmother of six.

"My father told me, 'Annie, you're very smart, and whatever you decide to do in your life, you're going to be successful. So don't ever give up, Annie,'" Dr. Ruben told The Washington Post in 2016. "I heard him loud and clear, and that gave me the incentive."

In 1925, Dr. Ruben was born in Pittsburgh to Max and Fannie Moliver, and would go on to marry Gershon Ruben in 1943, a marriage that stands to this day. While her husband was serving his country in World War II, she raised three small boys and studied for her degree, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961. She served as an elementary school teacher until she earned a Master of Education in 1965, becoming a school and community agent for Pittsburgh Public Schools until 1966.

From 1966 to 1971, Dr. Ruben worked with the University of Pittsburgh as a mental health consultant, earning a fellowship with the Maurice Falk Medical Foundation in 1968 and a PhD in 1969. She moved to Florida and served as an associate professor at Barry University from 1972 to 1976, establishing her private practice for counseling in 1974. She has also served as an adjunct professor at St. Thomas University and developed the Marriage Enrichment Program in 1980, following which Dr. Ruben was honored with the 1982 Marital and Family Therapy Fellowship.

Gershon Ruben adored "Dennis the Menace," and in the '90s, Dr. Ruben was inspired by a panel in her husband's beloved comic strip. She became locally famous for designing a t-shirt featuring the character of Margret saying, "Someday a woman will be president!" The shirt was famously pulled out of a Florida Walmart store to national uproar, and the shirts were brought back shortly after. Dr. Ruben responded with a second shirt bearing the additional message: "Someday is now," and established Women Are Wonderful to manufacture them.

Dr. Ruben has worked on several aids for marriage counseling, including an audiotape program titled "Making Marriage into an Equal Partnership." She is the author of "Our Teachers Are Crying," "The Memoirs of a Happy Psychologist," and other titles. In her civic duty, Dr. Ruben served with the Alliance for Aging, the Jewish Vocational Services, and still serves as president of the B'nai B'rith Women's Association in Miami. She is affiliated with the American Counseling Association, the Association for Couples in Marriage Enrichment, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and the Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

For her achievements in counseling and women's advocacy, Dr. Ruben was honored with the 1988 Special Recognition Award from the Association for Couples in Marriage Enrichment, the 1955 Outstanding Service Award VA, the 1988 Dropout Advisory Commission Award, the 1995 Woman of Distinction Award from the American Association of University Women, and the 1996 Unsung Heroine Award. She was selected for inclusion in two volumes of Who's Who in America in 2015 and 2016, two volumes of Who's Who in the South and Southwest from 1991 to 1994, and the 2006 to 2007 volume of Who's Who of American Women. Dr. Ruben enjoys writing, golf, and playing bridge.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Ruben has been featured on the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievers website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
