He is the principal of his own private practice in Chicago, where he works on an intimate level with clients in the fields of business litigation and criminal defense. Mr. Donlevy has extensive experience with both state and federal level cases whilst having contributed to professional journals.

Mr. Donlevy was born to Frank and Alice Genevieve (O'Connor) Donlevy in the city of Chicago, where he would serve as a lawyer for nearly six decades. He attended Stanford University, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University in 1954. He further earned a J.D. from the University of Chicago and conducted postgraduate work at Northwestern University in 1958. Notably, Mr. Donlevy was a participant of the Hinton Moot Court Competition at the University of Chicago from 1955 to 1956, and was invited to return as a judge in 1972.

As an introduction to litigation, Mr. Donlevy served for three years as an assistant state's attorney for the Cook County criminal division in Chicago. He went on to serve as a prosecutor for the city of Evanston, Illinois, in 1961. In 1962, Mr. Donlevy became an associate for the firm of Mayer, Brown, & Platt in Chicago, which is now Mayer Brown LLP. He was made a full partner in 1973, and served until 1990 when he left to establish his own private practice.

It was during this period that Mr. Donlevy shifted from prosecution to defense, and when he litigated many of his representative cases. He successfully defended state action for price-fixing penalties brought against sheet metal companies in the Chicago area, obtaining an outright dismissal of the case. In the Summerdale police scandal, he brought the first case to trial in the prosecution of two Summerdale detectives for conspiring with Richard Morrison to defeat burglary prosecution. Mr. Donlevy also has a successful history of reducing penalties and addressing past arrest or conviction records for his clients. Some of his notable contributions to the profession include "Vocational Rehabilitation Needs Legislation Rehabilitation" in 1987, and "The Sixth Amendment Right to Counsel; Does Miranda Suffice?" in 1988, with both articles published in the Chicago Bar Record.

Mr. Donlevy is a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association, the Federal Trial Bar, the University Club of Chicago, and the Chicago Bar Association, where he has served on multiple committees. He achieved the peer-reviewed AV ranking from Martindale Hubbell, and was honored with the 1960 Distinguished Legal Award from the American Legion in Chicago.

Cook County named Mr. Donlevy the Special Prosecutor of Labor Racketeering from 1959 to 1961, and he was profiled in "Summerdale- 35 Year Anniversary." Mr. Donlevy was selected for inclusion in multiple volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who in the World.
