Before obtaining the role of kindergarten teacher in 1974, she was a special needs teacher and a resource center director for Berryessa. Since 1990, Ms. Arvizu has also worked as a consultant and lecturer for the Bureau of Education and Research.
An alumna of San Jose State University, Ms. Arvizu holds a Bachelor of Arts in art, as well as a master's degree in the learning needs of young children. She also holds the credentials to teach special needs students from kindergarten through grade 14, and typical needs students from kindergarten through 9th grade. In order to remain current with industry trends, she affiliates herself with the Children's Book Council, Inc., the California and International Reading Associations, and the International Book Association for Young Readers. Over the years, Ms. Arvizu has written a number of works, including "Whole Language Strategies in the Classroom," "Read It Again," "Current Best Strategies to Help All Your Kindergarteners to be Successful," and "Together We Can Make a World of Difference."
Notably, Ms. Arvizu has been recognized many times for her professional accomplishments with such commendations as the Teacher of the Year Award from the Berryessa District, and an award from the Bureau of Education and Research.
