From soft rural landscapes to beautifully detailed still life, Ms. Koch has devoted over seven decades to her chosen medium of acrylic painting.
FLOURTOWN, PA, June 30, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Virginia Greenleaf Koch a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Ms. Koch celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
From soft rural landscapes to beautifully detailed still life, Ms. Koch has devoted over seven decades to her chosen medium of acrylic painting, with a style that has been described by the Diane Birdsall Gallery in Connecticut reminiscent of "a late day or early morning quiet point in time impression..." Ms Koch studied with luminary painters in both classic and contemporary styles, and her art hangs in the offices and residences of United Nations ambassadors, the U.S. Department of State, as well as the permanent collection of the Lyme Academy of Fine Art.
Born in Chicago to William Henry and Henrietta Irene Greenleaf in 1925, Ms. Koch was a pupil of the Russian-American painter Ivan Olinsky, best known for his impressionist female portraiture. She attended Yale University before becoming a student of Ukrainian American artist Robert Brackman, a popular art teacher in New York and a portrait painter famous for commissions of politicians and celebrities in the '30s and '40s. Ms. Koch conducted postgraduate work at American University in the '50s, and in the late '60s, she found the tuition of contemporary abstractionist Gene Davis, well known for both enormous and tiny pieces done in his striped color field art style.
Ms. Koch has been married three times and had two children, producing art through much of her life. Beginning in the '70s her paintings began to appear in one-woman shows and exhibitions in the Washington area, notably at the Studio Gallery, the World Bank, and the Phillips Collection. Other notable locations that have hosted Ms. Koch include the Parsons Dreyfuss Gallery in New York, the Main St. Gallery in Boston, and the University of North Virginia. In the '90s and the 2000s, her exhibitions became more exclusive to the Connecticut area, appearing at the Diane Birdsall Gallery, the Rittenhouse Fine Arts Gallery in Philadelphia, and the Alva Gallery in New London, Connecticut.
Outside of the studio, Ms. Koch has been active with a plethora of civic groups, notably the Olde Town Citizens Committee in Alexandria, Virginia in the '60s and '70s. She participated with the Georgetown Citizen's Association in Washington, the Hospital Thrift Shop in Nantucket, Massachusetts, the National Symphony of Washington, and the Arts Council of Nantucket. She is affiliated with the Studio Gallery, the Foundery Group of Women Painters, Artists' Equity, the Art League of Virginia, the Art Foundation of the Nantucket Historical Foundation, and the Old Lyme Historical Foundation. Ms. Koch was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Ms. Koch has been featured on the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievers website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
