Dr. Matsushita is an international expert on ceramics and a professor in the department of materials science at Tokai University in Hiratsuka. He has been a visiting professor across the world and is the founder of a Science & Technology Department in China as well as the founder of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization in Japan. As of 2016, Dr. Matsushita has been researching the fabrication and properties of boride. Boride is renowned for its ability to create excellent electrical conductivity and high thermal conductivity like a steel.
Born in Yokosuka, Japan, Dr. Matsushita studied at Tokai University to earn a Bachelor of Engineering, and began to work for Toshiba Ceramics. He matriculated at the Toyota Technical Institute in Nagoya, Japan, to earn a Master of Engineering, and earned a PhD from Tokai. Dr. Matsushita continued to work for Toshiba until 1996, when he accepted a position as assistant professor with Tokai. In 2004, Dr. Matsushita was acknowledged as a full professor, and from 2007 to 2010, he served as department chair for the university.
Dr. Matsushita has been an adjunct associate professor for Pennsylvania State University, visiting professor for Lviv Polytechnic National University in Ukraine, the University of Cambridge, and Hanyang University in Korea, as well as a guest professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University in China since 2012, and Wuhan University of Technology in China since 2016. He has contributed numerous articles to scientific publications, and was presented with a 2002 award from the Ceramic Society of Japan. Dr. Matsushita has also received the 2000 Electric Technology Encouragement Award, the 2001 Powder and Powder Metallurgy Award, and the 2001 Fulbright Award from the Japan-U.S. Educational Commission.
Many prestigious institutions have granted Dr. Matsushita funding throughout his career, including the Tokyo Electrical Power Company Foundation, the Japan Sheet Glass Foundation, the Minister of Education Japan Foundation, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, the Yazaki Science and Technology Foundation, the Iketani Science and Technology Foundation, the Tokuyama Science and Technology Foundation, and the Tokyo Ouka Science and Technology Foundation, which presented him with the Japan Grant-in-aid For Scientific Research.
