Dr. Di Franco is a stellar Italian cardiologist and an expert in echocardiography, currently serving his postdoctoral fellowship in advanced cardiovascular imaging with New York Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical Center. He was named one of the 2017 "Top 25 Investigators" by the American Society of Echocardiography, which also acknowledged one of his papers as 2017 "Top 8 Abstracts" in the field.
Dr. Di Franco started as a student at the Liceo Scientifico "G. D'Alessandro" in Bagheria (Palermo), graduating with full marks and an honorable mention (2004). He was selected as an outstanding Italian high school student by the prestigious Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and attended its summer school in Cortona (Arezzo) in 2003. He earned his MD degree in 2010 from the renowned Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome with full marks cum laude, and was included in 2008 in the top quintile of all fourth-year medical students in Italy by the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Di Franco served his internship and residency in Cardiology with the Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome with full marks cum laude (2016), and was accepted for a research fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell in January 2016. In 2014, he was certified from the Italian Resuscitation Council as an Advanced Life Support provider.
Though young, Dr. Di Franco has published an incredible amount of clinical papers, ranging from microvascular angina assessment and treatment, to cortical pain processing in patients with myocardial ischemia, to echocardiographic evaluation of right ventricular function, to surgical myocardial revascularization with the use of arterial grafts. He is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, as well as three Italian cardiology societies (SIC, SIEC, ANCE). He has command of the English and Italian languages. He served as an associate guest editor for the Journal of Thoracic Disease, as well as a reviewer for Case Report in Cardiology and as a member of the editorial board for the Italian Journal of Practice Cardiology/Giornale Italiano di Cardiologia Pratica.
Dr. Di Franco has given several presentations at international congresses, and has authored/co-authored more than 45 scientific abstracts in the field of ischemic cardiomyopathy, echocardiography, microvascular angina, silent myocardial ischemia, peripheral endothelial function assessment, and coronary blood flow reserve assessment. Dr. Di Franco continues to be a vital international resource in heart health, and is a promising young doctor in the field.
