As a professor of mechanical engineering at the California State University, Northridge, Dr. Kabo demonstrates his well-rounded knowledge and skillset in creating power-producing machines for medical purposes. He has worked within the college since 2004, during which time he has also served as an associate dean for the College of Engineering and Computer Science. In total, Dr. Kabo has amassed more than 43 years of professional experience in his field. Noteworthy roles held during his tenure include co-chair of the biomechanics, biomaterials, tissue engineering and biomedical engineering interdisciplinary program at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science at UCLA, professor in residence for the department of orthopedic surgery at UCLA School of Medicine, visiting lecturing for the mechanical, aerospace and nuclear engineering department at the UCLA School of Engineering, and research bioengineer and orthopaedic surgery research at VA Wadsworth Medical Center. In his career, Dr. Kabo has reached top achievements and patents for porous acetabular hip resurfacing, collarless femoral hip prosthesis, multidirectional morphology and mechanics of osteonic lamellae, and modeling viscoelastic torsional properties of osteons. For these advancements in medical science and engineering, Dr. Kabo was honored with the Frank Stinchfield and John Charnley awards from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a Superior Performance Award from the Veterans Administration and a Certificate of Recognition from NASA. A distinguished educator recognized by the Engineers' Council in San Fernando Valley, CA, he was also honorably selected for inclusion into Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
Dr. Kabo's impact on his industry is driven by the experiences, education and affiliations that he has maintained over the last four decades. He holds a Ph.D. in applied mechanics from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. To remain at the top of his field, he is a member of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, the National Computer Graphics Association, the Association for Computing Machinery, the California Biomedical Research Association, and the Orthopaedic Research Society. As he looks to the future, Dr. Kabo intends to continue in his work as a professor with California State University, Northridge, while taking on opportunities within the college to help prepare the next generation of engineers for successful careers.
