KEELUNG, TAIWAN, July 18, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Dr. Cherng-Yuan Lin a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Lin celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
The internal combustion engine may have found new life with the biodiesel research conducted by Dr. Lin at the National Taiwan Ocean University. Dr. Lin is a distinguished professor of energy who has devoted 26 years to the study of maritime sciences, especially in the area of producing fuels from marine algae. His 2017 work in producing biodiesel shows marked reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases. Dr. Lin holds patents in engineering, and his achievements include research into combustion and the high-temperature characteristics of furnaces.
Dr. Lin was born in Taiwan to Mao-Fa and Tsai-Yi Lin. He served in the Taiwan military from 1981 to 1983 before completing his studies at the School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a PhD in 1991. Dr. Lin accepted a post at the National Taiwan Ocean University in Keelung as an associate professor, and was granted the chair of the marine engineering department in 1998. In 2005, Dr. Lin became the dean of the College of Maritime Science and Management at Keelung, and was made a distinguished professor of energy in 2010.
In "Diesel Engine Performance and Emission Characteristics of Biodiesel Produced by The Peroxidation Process," Dr. Lin's team compared commercially available diesel with biodiesel samples, finding increased performance and lower carbon emissions from the organically-produced fuel. His recent papers focus on the lipid and biodiesel properties of Chaetoceros mulleri, an algae that can live in both the deep sea and the surface of the ocean. With over 70 percent of the world covered in water, this research holds incredible potential for the future of combustion engines. Dr. Lin's research is available from the Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy.
Dr. Lin's research is well documented in various papers, and he has conducted work at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge as a visiting scholar. He is the associate editor of Frontiers in Energy Research and a member of the editorial board of Fuel, the Marine Engineering Frontiers journal. From 2002 to 2009, he served as editor-in-chief of Combustion Quarterly and served as a committee member of the Combustion Institute. Additionally, Dr. Lin has consulted with the Environmental Protection Bureau in Keelung, and from 1996 to 2005, he served as an appraisal expert for the Environmental Protection Administration in Taiwan. Dr. Lin has been honored with the 2000, 1998, 1997, 1996 and 1995 Research Excellence Award from the National Science Council of Taiwan.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Lin has been featured on the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievers website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
