NEW YORK, NY, July 25, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nancy Lien Yang has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Backed by nearly two decades of practiced experience working with pastels, Ms. Yang serves as the president of the Pastel Association of Taiwan - a role she has held since 2012. Although the medium is relatively unfamiliar in the Far East, Ms. Yang feels it is perfect for accurately portraying nature's tranquility. The 2017 International Pastel Artists Invitational Exhibition to be held at Chang Kai Shek Memorial Hall in Taipei, Taiwan Nov. 17, 2017 - Dec. 17, 2017.
The Pastel Association of Taiwan (then called the Taiwan Teachers Pastel Society) was formed in May of 2010. It was created to provide a new platform for pastel artists to discuss, develop and showcase their artwork and the association realized that supporting the international invitational shows was a key component to achieving that end. Thus this organization became the major sponsor of the show in 2012.
Since then, this event has continued to blossom. This year's show, from Nov. 17 - Dec. 17, 2017, is at the Chang Kai Shek Memorial Hall in Taipei, one of the most prestigious locations in Taiwan and also one of its most visited tourist sites. There are now at least 17 countries represented in the show.
From the U. S., the association invited all of the Pastel Society of America (PSA) board members, the senior members of the North American Pastel Artists Association (NAPAA) and a few artists who have supported the shows in the past. PSA has a history of more than forty five years. Its board members are all very accomplished and well respected. NAPAA has more than twenty years of history and is very active in the pastel world. In Europe, the association invited the co-founders of the Pastel Society of Spain (ASPAS), Jose Del Riego and Rafael Cabo Cagigas, plus the award winners from their first (including the first place winner, Aurelio Rodriguez Lopez) and second Biennial International Pastel Exhibitions. Sylvie Cabal, founder and former president of the Pastel Society of France (PSF), invited, on the association's behalf, the award winners from PSF. The association also invited famous pastel artists from China, Singapore and Japan. In Taiwan, the association invited several well known artists. The association has even been able to invite artists from countries like Latvia and Ivory Coast.
Pastel in Taiwan is still an emerging art form. The association's great hope is that, through their exhibitions, they can increase the understanding of, interest in and the devotion to pastel art in Taiwan. One day, Nancy Yang believes, pastel will be in the main stream of art exhibitions in Taiwan and we, as an organization, will make a difference by serving a pivotal role in the art history of Taiwan.
Pastel in Taiwan's mission is:
To foster opportunities for multicultural exchange and enrichment
To further establish the professional status of pastel art
To promote pastel art education and awareness
To accomplish the above in concert with developing government policies in the areas of literature and art
At the start of her career, Ms. Yang served as an analyst for the Department of Computer Services at the State University of New York at Purchase. Subsequently, she became director of the department and remained in that role for 14 years. She became a founding board member of the Pastel Association of Taiwan in 2010. Additionally, Ms. Yang is an elected member of Allied Artists of America, Inc, a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, and a member of the Salmagundi Club, the Professional Art League, Audubon Artists Inc, the North American Pastel Artists Association and the Pastel Society of Spain.
An alumna of the University of California, Berkley, Ms. Yang holds bachelors and masters degrees in mathematics and statistics. Over the years, she studied pastel with Wende Caporale and Rae Smith through the Katonah Arts Center, as well as the Jason Chang Workshop, the Northern Westchester Center for the Arts and the Daniel Green Workshop. Throughout her career, she has created a variety of award winning works, including "Blue Water," which won both the Allen J. Smith Memorial Award from the American Artists Professional League in 2015 and the Artimiranda Award at the First Biennial International Pastel Show in Spain, Oviedo, Spain in 2011. Her other awards include the Honorary Richard Pionk Memorial Award in Pastel, the Audubon Artists Inc.
