Arnold R. Eiser, MD, MACP Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

For nearly four decades, Dr. Eiser has been a prolific leader in the field of medicine as a physician, bioethicist, author, and medical educator. Dr. Eiser is the author of The Ethos of Medicine in Postmodern America Rowman & Littlefield (Lexington Books) 2014, paperback 2015, and is currently writing a book on preserving brain health against environmental toxins. He is also currently an Adjunct Senior Fellow of the Leonard Davis Institute of Healthcare Economics and Policy at the University of Pennsylvania as well as at the Center for Public Healthcare Initiatives there.

Born to Harold and Anne Eiser, Dr. Eiser began his career upon attending the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a BA, magna cum laude, followed by an MD from Northwestern University in 1974. He served his internship with Pennsylvania Hospital and his internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. and fellowship in Nephrology and Hypertension at Hahnemann University Hospital.

He was a clinical and research nephrologist for the first half of his career for the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in NYC. In 1995 he published research in pulmonary gas exchange during dialysis and improving the treatment of lupus nephritis. At Elmhurst Hospital Center he became the Director of Ambulatory Care and the director of the internal medicine residency. In the late '90s, Dr. Eiser joined the University of Illinois as chief of the internal medicine section. For the many patients he treated in New York and Chicago, he has received Best Doctor Awards for many years running from the Castle Connelly Guide.

Dr. Eiser served as the Vice President of Medical Education for Mercy Health Systems in the greater Philadelphia area and as the Associate Dean for Mercy Programs at Drexel University College of Medicine from 2003 to 2014. He also served as a Senior Fellow of the Jefferson University School of Population Health and Associate Fellow at the Center of Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Eiser's efforts in research, education, and clinical care were honored with a 2008 Laureate Award from the Pennsylvania chapter of the American College of Physicians as well as a 2010 Parker Palmer Courage to Lead Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education for educational leadership. His work in bioethics is documented in a number of publications as well as the book cited above.

As a celebrated physician, Dr. Eiser has received a 2015 Pressman Award, a 2014 Mastership, and a 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award from the American College of Physicians. He served as Chair of the Health of Public Policy Committee for the PA Chapter of the American College of Physicians from 2009-2015. In addition to a celebrated tenure with the American College of Physicians, Dr. Eiser was counted as a fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and the Institute of Medicine of Chicago. He served the latter as Secretary-Treasurer and was an adjunct fellow of the Hastings Center bioethics think tank.

He was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World, as well as two volumes each of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. Dr. Eiser is the husband of Barbara Joyce Andrews and the father of Arielle Veronica. In his spare time, he enjoys travel, exercise, photography, and music.
