Dr. Masayoshi Yamaguchi Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Yamaguchi is a biomedical scientist whose expertise includes biochemistry, endocrinology, metabolism, nutrition, oncology, pharmacology, and toxicology. He is also an educator within these fields, and he has taught at various esteemed institutions around the world.

The son of Kiyoshi and Yoshiko Yamaguchi, Dr. Yamaguchi was born June 15, 1947 in Atami, Japan. On December 12, 1976, he married Eiko Masaoka. The couple have two children, Yasuko and Shuichi.

Dr. Yamaguchi studied at Shizuoka College of Pharmacy in Japan. In 1971, he received a bachelor's degree in pharmacy. In 1973, he received a master's degree in pharmacy, and in 1976, he received a PhD. Following the attainment of a master's, Dr. Yamaguchi began work as a research associate at Shizuoka College of Pharmacy. In 1986, he was promoted to the position of assistant professor of pharmacy. In 1987, Dr. Yamaguchi joined the University of Shizuoka, where he served as an assistant professor of pharmacy and then an associate professor of health science. Later, he was a professor of health science at the University of Shizuoka from 1993 to 2007.

Dr. Yamaguchi has taught at universities across the world. He was a visiting lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania in 1981, and in 1985, he was a visiting assistant professor at Texas Tech University, and in 1988, he was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Texas. Dr. Yamaguchi has taught as visiting professor at Emory University from 2007 to 2011, and has also led classes of the University of Georgia, the University of Missouri, and Baylor College of Medicine. Later, Dr. Yamaguchi has served as an adjunct professor at Emory University from 2013 to 2016. In 2017, he has been appointed to adjunct professor at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center, and also is visiting professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He also serves a scientific advisor for Primus Pharms. Inc. since 2006.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Yamaguchi has achieved much, including the discovery of a gene and protein for cell signaling system, as well as a regulatory protein called Regucalcin and transcription factor RGPR-p117 in mammalian cells. He has also secured 23 patents for the development of Regucalcin transgenic animals as disease models and various compositions to prevent the reduction of bone mass and osteoporosis.

Further, Dr. Yamaguchi has made countless contributions to medical and scientific journals, including publication of more than 500 original articles for research works, and he has served as editor-in-chief 16 international journals such as Hormonal Studies and International Journal of Diabetes and Clinical Research, and editorial board members in large number of international journals including International Journal of Molecular Medicine and International Journal of Oncology. He is the author of "Calcium and Life" (1997), "Biometals" (1998), "Prevention of Osteoporosis and Nutrition" (1999), "Nutritional Factors and Osteoporosis Prevention" (2010), "Bone Health and Food Factor" (2010), "Regucalcin: Genomics, Cell Regulation and Disease" (2012), "Biomedical Osteoporosis Treatment" (2013), and "The Role of Regucalcin in Cell Homeostasis and Disorder" (2017).

Moreover, Dr. Yamaguchi published 12 international scientific books as his editor (2010-2017).
Dr. Yamaguchi was the president of the Institute of Bone Health and Nutrients from 2007 to 2012. He was is a member of a variety of other organizations, such as the American Society of Cell Biology, the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the European Calcium Society, the Japanese Society of Pharmacology, the Japanese Society of Osteoporosis, the Japanese Endocrine Society, the Japanese Society of Biomedical Research of Trace Elements, the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, the Japanese Society of Bone and Mineral Metabolism, the Japanese Society of Biochemistry, the Japan Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the New York Academy of Sciences.

In 2004, Dr. Yamaguchi was named International Scientist of the Year and inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was the recipient of a Gold Medal in 2008, as well as the Distinguished Service to Science Award in 2007 and the Salute to Greatness Award in 2006. He also received the American Medal of Honor Award and the Senji Miyata Foundation Award in 2006. He was presented with the American Order of Excellence and International Peace Prize in 2005. Further, he received the World Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, the International Order of Excellence Award in 2004, the Yamanouchi Foundation Award in 2004, and an Academy Award from the Mishima Kaiun Memorial Foundation in 1999. Dr. Yamaguchi was also the recipient of an award from the Encouragement Foundation of Pharmaceutical Research, the Saito Prize, a prize from the Sato Memorial Foundation, and an award from the Takeda Scientific Promotion Foundation.

Dr. Yamaguchi has appeared in various Marquis Who's Who publications, including the 1st and 2nd editions of Who's Who in Asia. He also has been featured in the 63rd through 65rd editions of Who'sWho in America, the 7th through 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, as well as the 22nd through 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World.
