With more than 40 years of industry experience, Dr. Rubenstein started in the field as an intern and resident with the Los Angeles County General Hospital. From there, he joined Harvard Medical School as a research fellow and research associate. More recently, he held the roles of physician and chief of the allergy department for Harvard University Health Services, and medical consultant for the state of California's Disability Program through the Department of Social Services.
A graduate of Carleton College and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Rubenstein holds a Bachelor of Arts as well as an MD. Throughout his career, he has added to knowledge by his creative works, including many scientific articles, and the plays "Brothers All," "The Golem Man of Earth," "Tony and Cleo," "Shiloh,"
"The Defiant Soul," and adaptations and translations of the plays "Agamemnon," "The Trojan Woman" and "Britannicus." Also, he has written books including "Maccabee," "The Good Friday Prayer," "Becoming Free" and "Photographs of Howard Rubenstein." Additionally, with Max Lee, he has written a musical version in English of the Chinese play "Xi Xiang Ji," "Romance of the Western Chamber--a Musical" (which opened in China in Rubenstein's English in 2011), opening on off-off Broadway in September 2017.
Beyond his status as a leader in his field, he has been recognized many times for his professional endeavors. In addition to winning the Carleton College Noyes Prize for excellence in ancient Greek in 1953, Dr. Rubenstein was appointed distinguished Harold C. Ernst Fellow at Harvard Medical School. He has been also featured in two editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, eight editions of Who's Who in the World, and nine editions of Who's Who in America.
