He was selected to participate in The Defeat Autism Now (DAN) conference in Dallas, where he helped develop protocols to treat autistic children. Dr. Sokolski was also named 2010 National Physician of the Year for his longstanding psychiatric service with the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization in Long Beach, California.

Born in Los Angeles to Edward Alter and Renee T. Sokolski, Dr. Sokolski studied at Occidental College in L.A. and went on to earn a masters degree from The University of California, San Diego. He obtained an M.D. degree at The University of California, Irvine, and became a practicing psychiatrist in 1987. Three years later, he established a private practice in Newport Beach, California. In the same year, Dr. Sokolski joined the mood disorder clinic at the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Health Care System as the chief psychiatrist, and extended that service to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Association in assisting combat veterans with treatment and claims for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He also served as the medical director of a clinical trials company (2001-2013) where he was involved in developing and testing some of the most prominent psychotropic medicines currently available.

Additionally, Dr. Sokolski joined the University of California as an assistant professor in residence in 1991, became an associate adjunct professor in 1997, and has been a full professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior since 2010. Beginning in 2011, Dr. Sokolski was appointed the director for the psychopharmacology course for psychiatric residents. at the University of California, Irvine and has continued to serve in this position, taking particular enjoyment in educating residents.

Dr. Sokolski's practice is in Newport Beach, not far from the Pacific Ocean making it easy for him to apply his Masters degree in Marine Biology from The Scripps Institute of Oceanography. In his academic work in psychiatry, he has written numerous scholarly articles for peer reviewed journals.

Over his academic career, Dr. Sokolski has been awarded several prestigious fellowships including The Thomas J. Watson Foundation Fellowship and The Marshall Scholarship affording the opportunity to study abroad in Japan and England. In addition, he has been elected to The National Medical Honor Society (Alpha Omega Alpha), The American Psychiatric Association, and The West Coast College of Biological Psychiatry. Dr. Sokolski has also been honored with membership in Phi Beta Kappa and graduated as the valedictorian of his class with honors in biology from Occidental College in 1997. He is a recipient of The Vincent Carroll Award for excellence in research, a meritorious recognition from The Association of Academic Psychiatry, and a 1993-1996 Research Advanced Grant from the Veterans Affairs Health Care System.

For dedication to America's veterans and tireless psychiatric service, Dr. Sokolski was selected for inclusion in seven volumes of Who's Who in America and the 2011 to 2012 volume of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
