SEOUL, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, August 10, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Keun Lee, PhD, a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Lee celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Lee is an accomplished economist, president of the International Schumpeter Society, founder of the Center for Economic Catch-Up, and professor of economics at Seoul National University. He was lauded in 2013 for his monograph, "Schumpeterian Analysis of Economic Catch-Up: Knowledge, Path Creation and the Middle Income Trap," which won the 2014 Schumpeter Prize. Dr. Lee has been a prolific presence in international economic publications, and his articles in Research Policy have had a huge impact on catch-up by the industries in Korea and other emerging countries, accruing close to one thousand citations.
Born in the capital city to Ju-Seong Lee and Young-Ae Kim, Dr. Lee attended Seoul National University and was named to a fellowship with the University of California, Berkeley and the Institute for International Studies. He earned a PhD in economics in 1989, and joined the East-West Center in Hawaii as a research fellow. Dr. Lee rejoined his alma mater as a visiting professor in 1992, but continued to travel the world as a lecturer with the University of Aberdeen in the U.K., and as a visiting scholar with the World Bank, the Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, Japan, and Punjabi University in India. Additionally, he has served as an editor with Research Policy, and an associate editor with Industrial and Corporate Change, and is the author of such books as "New East Asian Economic Development" and "Chinese Firms and the State in Transition."
Dr. Lee is a member of the American Economic Association, the Association for Comparative Economic Studies, the Korean Economic Association, and the Korean Association for Comparative Economics. Notably, he was recently made a member of the Committee for Development Policy in the U.N., council member of the World Economic Forum, member of the Science and Technology Commission of Rwanda Government, and a member of the governing board of Globelics, an international economic development and research network.
As a prominent scholar in the works of Austrian economist and political scientist Joseph Schumpeter, Dr. Lee has extensively studied the "middle-income trap," an economic situation where newly industrialized economies lose their competitive edge due to wages that keep up with the export of manufactured goods. In his 2013 book, Dr. Lee explored how the "creative destruction" of new industries replacing old ones keeps Asian countries like China and Korea at the peak of economic competition, compared to stagnant economies in Brazil and other Latin countries. In 2016, he applied those economic theories to his native land with the monograph "Economic Catch-up and Technological Leapfrogging: Path to Development & Macroeconomic Stability in Korea," Published by E Elgar.
For his achievements in international economics, Dr. Lee is the recipient of numerous Korean prizes, notably the 2015 Academic Award from the National Academy of Sciences. He was selected for inclusion in three volumes of Who's Who in the World from 1995 to 1998, as well as the 2000 to 2001 volume of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and the 2007 volume of Who's Who in Asia. Dr. Lee is the husband of So-Yeon Lee and the father of Hyung-Sok and Ji-Won. He enjoys tennis and hiking.
