GYEONGGI, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, August 11, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Chang Yeol Lee, PhD has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Lee is an accomplished Korean semiconductor engineer and an expert in dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) technology. He currently serves as a research fellow with the DRAM reliability lab at the memory semiconductor firm SK Hynix, one of the largest computer chip makers in the world. Dr. Lee's research improves the reliability of DRAM components while seeking to preserve the benefits of cost efficiency, structural simplicity, and high density of data storage.
Dr. Lee studied electronic engineering at Sogang University in the capital city of Seoul, and was exempted from military service through an alternative program at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He earned a Master's degree in 1991 from KAIST as well as a PhD in semiconductor device modeling and simulations in 1997. Dr. Lee joined SK Hynix and served as the device engineer and the project manager for SRAMs, DRAMs and high bandwidth memories (HBMs) for more than 20 new product development programs in SK Hynix, and in 2015, he was promoted to a research fellow in SK Hynix.
DRAM is one of the most popular memory devices featuring high data read/write speed with low per bit cost. Though its volatile data retention feature limits chip performance and requires additional power consumption due to periodic refresh cycles, DRAM promises a matured and higher compatibility with a wide power-speed coverage, fitting as many as billions of components on a single chip. Dr. Lee is an industry expert in this area, and was asked to deliver a short lecture at the 2015 International Electron Devices Meeting. He also addressed in 2015 IEDM Lecture with "Nevertheless, DRAM's hurdles are still surmountable for the next decade, since it is not a physical (or physics) limit but an engineering and structural barrier we can overcome with devotion of faithful engineers and supports."
In addition to contributions to industry conferences and technical literature, Dr. Lee is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. In his free time, he enjoys watching figure skating, playing classical guitar, learning music, and playing golf. Dr. Lee also enjoys the warmth of his family, which includes his wife, Yunjung Hong, daughter Hyerin, and son Jaehyun.
