Dr. Park has achieved national and international prominence in theoretical physics through his 30-plus years of work in research, scholarship, and education. For more than 15 years, he has worked as a professor in the Department of Physics at Kyungnam University, and worked as a lecturer, assistant professor, and associate professor within the same department earlier in his career. His past experiences in academia include multiple research fellowships at the University of Kaiserslautern, his work as a visiting scholar and visiting scientist at the University of Michigan, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and University of Rochester, fellowship at the University of Tokyo, and instructorship at Myungji University. Dr. Park began his career in 1986 as an instructor in the Department of Physics at the Military Academy of Seoul, Korea.
In 1984, Dr. Park received a Bachelor of Science in physics with an honors distinction from Korea University, and in 1988, obtained a PhD in theoretical physics from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. With more than a hundred publications, his research spans across various subjects of theoretical physics, including quantum field theories, black hole physics, and quantum information theories. He acts as a referee for the Physical Review, the Journal of High Energy Physics, International Modern Physics Letters A, the Journal of Mathematical Physics, the Physica Scripta, the Foundations of Physics, and Transactions on Computers. Dr. Park has also been a member of the Korean Physical Society and American Physical Society for more than 20 years, and has been an associate member of the Michigan Center for Theoretical Physics since 2001.
Dr. Park is also a veteran, having served in the military from 1979 to 1981 as a Korean Augmentation troop to the United States Army. He has been married to his wife, Kim Sook Hee, for more than 30 years, and has two sons, WonBum and JoungBum.
Dr. Park won the research award from Hanma Research Foundation in 1997 and 2000.
