He has since authored numerous articles in the field on topics like gel permeation chromatography, cellulose biosynthesis, fiber-length analysis, and paper and paperboard grades. Furthermore, Dr. Ring is the author of the award winning PaperQuest videotapes on the various paper properties. Holding three patents on superabsorbent technology, his most recent research interests have included fiber-length analysis and paper formation.
Serving on the honors committee for the Papers Industry International Hall of Fame, Dr. Ring is a member of the editorial board and fellow of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI), is a technical editor for the TAPPI Journal, and is a former chairman of Lake States TAPPI. In 1992, Dr. Ring was a Wis. Teaching Fellow. He since received a Recognition Award by UWSP Extension in 1999, an Excellence Award by the University of Continuing Education Association, Region IV, in 1999, and an Innovation Grant by the WiSys Technical Foundation, Inc., in 2007.
Beyond his impressive professional accolades, Dr. Ring has been included in two of the most recent editions of Who's Who in America. Completing a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biology at SUNY, Dr. Ring then graduated with an MS and PhD from the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, Wisconsin.
