Admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1980, Mr. Essmyer is also admitted to practice in the Northern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas in the U.S. District Court, the first, fifth, seventh, ninth, and federal circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals, the U.S. Claims Court, and the Supreme Court of the United States of America. Practicing law for close to 40 years, he has been in private practice for more than for than three decades of his career. A former officer and shareholder of Haynes & Fullenweider, PLC, he founded Essmyer & Daniel, PC in 2011.
Throughout the course of career, Mr. Essmyer has spent time on the board of directors for the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the Harris County Trial Lawyers Association, and the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association, and is member of several other professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Texas Bar Foundation, and the Federal Bar Association. He is also a member and former co-chairman of lawyers of the public schools committee, co-chair of the speakers committee, and co-chairman of the continuing legal education committee for the Houston Bar Association.
A national merit scholar from 1968 to 1972, Mr. Essmyer completed a Bachelor of Science in Geology at Texas A&M University in 1972 before entering the military. Serving as a captain in the U.S. Air Force until 1978, he was a navigator and electronics warfare officer, during which time he attended and taught classes in geology at Texas Christian University. He then completed a JD, summa cum laude, at South Texas College of Law in 1980, and began working as a law clerk for Gulf Oil Company and later became a briefing officer for the Supreme Court of Texas before going into practice for himself.
Married to Cynthia Rose Piccolo since 1970, Mr. Essmyer and she have three children. Involved in the Houston Community Theater, he has been an actor, director, and producer and has been serving on the board of directors since 2001.
