Dr. Park is a prominent Korean professor of orthopedics with Hanyang University and the department of orthopedic surgery at Guri Hospital, both located in Seoul, Republic of Korea. He is a leading authority on osteoporosis and spinal development, and has consistently won awards for both teaching and research presentations since 1997. Dr. Park maintains an international relationship with leaders in the field, and partnered with Dr. John P. Kostuik of Johns Hopkins University in researching spinal disc biotechnology, bone fusion biology, and spinal cord regeneration.
Born in the capital city to Byung-Min Park and Kyung-Sin Choi, Dr. Park studied medicine with Hanyang University and served to the rank of junior lieutenant as a medical officer with the Republic of Korea Army. He served with the Okpo Daewoo Hospital and the Koryo General Hospital as a medical staffer in the '90s, and went on to a spinal fellowship with his alma mater, Hanyang University. The position led Dr. Park to his collaboration in a clinical research fellowship with Johns Hopkins, and in 2002, he returned to begin teaching with Hanyang.
In 2007, Dr. Park accepted the concurrent position of chairman of the orthopedic surgery department at Guri Hospital, where he served until 2012. He accepted a role as head of emergency medicine at Guri from 2010 to 2012, and, from 2011 to 2013, he served as chief professor with the college of medicine at Hanyang University.
Dr. Park is certified by the Korean Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the government of Republic of Korea, and has led the medical community in his country as a longstanding member of the Korean Medical Association and the Korean Orthopedic Surgery Association. He has served the editorial and directors' boards of numerous medical societies, and notably still supports the Korean Society of Fractures, the Korean Society of Spine Surgery, the Korean Association for Study of Spinal Deformities, the Societe Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopedique et de Traumatologie, and the Asian Pacific Orthopedic Association. Dr. Park has joined groups in the research of women's health, spinal tumors, and computer assisted orthopedics, while maintaining a prolific presence in the bylines of professional medical publications.
For many decades of excellence in the healing of bones and muscles, Dr. Park has received a slew of awards, most recently a 2017-2015 Best Paper Award from the Korean Society of Spinal Surgery on the association of low-energy spinal fractures with vitamin D inadequacy. Other notable paper awards include a 2008 Scientific Encouraging Prize from the Korean Orthopedic Association and a 2008 Excellence Paper Award from the Korean Musculoskeletal Transplantation Society, as well as a bevy of achievement awards for his 2016 work with patients of cervical spondylotic myelopathy with postoperative kyphosis change. Dr. Park was selected for inclusion in the 2016 volume of Who's Who in the World. When not working with patients, he enjoys watching movies and traveling, as well as the company of his wife and two children.
