From 2007 to 2012, Mr. Plaeger served as the senior vice president and general counsel to EOG Resources, Inc. Prior to this opportunity, he was the vice president and general counsel of Burlington Resources, Inc. for nine years as well vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary of the Louisiana Land and Exploration Company in New Orleans for nine years. He began his legal career in 1977 as a law clerk for the Eastern District of the United States District Court of Louisiana. Mr. Plaeger has also served as a partner at Milling, Benson, Woodward, Hillyer, Pierson and Miller in New Orleans from 1985 to 1989 and as an associate in the firm from 1979 to 1985.
Mr. Plaeger attended Louisiana State University and received a JD in 1977 and Bachelor of Science one year prior. He has been admitted to practice in Louisiana in 1978, Texas in 1999, the Eastern District of the United States District Court of Louisiana in 1978, the Fifth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals in 1981, and the Supreme Court of the United States in 1989.
Mr. Plaeger has served his community as a trustee of the Houston Ballet from 2001 to 2014. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Louisiana Nature and Science Center from 1992 to 1994, the Society of Environmental Education, and the Children's Oncology Services of Louisiana--Ronald McDonald House of New Orleans--from 1987 to 1990. Mr. Plaeger also supported his community as a selected member of the Metropolitan Area Committee Leadership Forum in 1986. He also served the New Orleans Speech and Hearing Center as president from 1988 to 1990, and as a member of the board of directors from 1985 to 1991.
Mr. Plaeger has been a board member of the United States Oil and Gas Association since 2011 and board member of the American Exploration and Production Council since 2007. Since 2010, he has served as a trustee of the Center for American and International Law. He has also been a member of the executive committee of the American Natural Gas Alliance since 2009. Previously, he served the Texas General Counsel Forum as president of the Houston Chapter from 2005 to 2006, and as the statewide chairman from 2006 to 2007.
Beyond his status as a leader in his field, Mr. Plaeger previously served a board director of the New Orleans Chapter of the American Corporate Counsel Association. He was also on the executive committee of the Institute of Energy Law for 12 years, on the advanced board since 2001, and chairman from 2005 to 2008. Mr. Plaeger is an active member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America, and the Louisiana and Texas Bar Associations.
Mr. Plaeger is the son of Edgar Leonard and Bernice Virginia (Schiwetz) Plaeger. He has been married to Kathleen Helen Dickson for 40 years, with whom he has had two children: Douglas A. and Catherine E. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing and working with computers.
Mr. Plaeger has received multiple awards and commendations for his outstanding contributions to his industry. In 1989, he received the Service to Mankind Award by Sertoma. The Texas Monthly Magazine named him as a Texas Super Lawyer in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. He was also honored with the Magana Stella Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Mr. Plaeger has been featured in more than 75 editions of Who's Who publications, including Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in Corporate America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
