Dr. Cook, professor emeritus for the department of English and modern languages at Bowie State University since 2009, spent his entire 30-year career at the same institution, beginning as an assistant professor of English in 1979. His bountiful career led him to serve as an associate professor of English, special assistant to the provost, presidential intern, chair and curriculum committee member, chair for the department of English and modern languages, and full English professor. Disciplines included languages and world literatures, English literature by period, and William Shakespeare.
Authoring papers on subjects ranging from Shakespeare to the editing of electronic texts, Dr. Cook is also the owner, editor, and monitor of SHAKSPER: The Global Electronic Shakespeare Conference, which has enjoyed more than two decades of service to the Shakespeare academic community. He is also the co-editor of "Shakespeare's Sonnets and Lovers Complaint 1609" and editor of an electronic edition of "Venus and Adonis."
A member of the English Renaissance Text Society, the Malone Society, the International Shakespeare Association, and the Shakespeare Association of America, Dr. Cook earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature, a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature, and a PhD in English, Theater, Radio, TV and Film, all at the University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Cook's success has earned him the University System of Maryland's Board of Regents Award for Excellence in Scholarship/Research/Creative Activities in 1999. He was also nominated for Outstanding Educator of the Year by the Maryland Association of Higher Education and has been listed in numerous editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World for his achievements.
