Mr. Wallace is retired entrepreneur of a number of different industries, notably serving as chairman for Wallace Associates Incorporated in Salt Lake City from 1969 to 1998. From a start at Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he has traversed the disciplines of urban planning, metallurgy, finance, and even television. Mr. Wallace is also a prolific civic contributor, and has received a number of awards for his professional and community leadership.
A Salt Lake City native, Mr. Wallace was born to John McChrystal and Glenn Wallace in 1924 and served in World War II to the rank of lieutenant, junior grade, with the U.S. Navy. He attended Stanford University to earn a Bachelor's degree in 1947 and went on to study urban planning at MIT. From 1950 to 1953, Mr. Wallace worked as a principal planner with the Boston City Planning Board. He went on to a post as vice president of National Planning and Research Incorporated in Boston for two years before moving back to Salt Lake City as president of Wallace-McConaughy Corporation.
In 1969, Mr.Wallace became president of Arizona Ranch and Metals Company, and chairman of Wallace Associates. Mr. Wallace briefly led the Idaho TV Corporation in the '70s, and was a director of the Mountain Bell Telephone Company, the First Interstate Bank, the Roosevelt Hot Springs Corporation, Arnold Machinery Company, and the Wells Fargo Bank Community Board.
As a business leader in Salt Lake City, Mr. Wallace has supported numerous local councils, including a role as president of the Downtown Planning Association, and positions with the Utah State Arts Council, the College of Business at the University of Utah, the Utah Symphony Orchestra, and the Capital Campaign of Westminster College. Notably, Mr. Wallace was recognized as a leader with the Planned Parenthood honorary board, as well as the athletics board and the humanities and sciences council of Stanford University. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, the American Arts Alliance, the Cottonwood Club, the Salt Lake Country Club, the Springs Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, the Flat Rock Club in Idaho, and Phi Kappa Phi honor society, as well as a board member of the Alta Club.
Mr. Wallace's achievements have been recognized with a 1994 Utah National Guard Minuteman Award, a 1991 Governor's Award in the Arts, and a 1977 Contribution Award by the Downtown Planning Association. He was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Finance and Business, and Who's Who in Finance and Industry. Mr. Wallace is the proud father of Matthew and Anne, as well as the husband of Susan Struggles.
