At the start of her career, she joined the Provincial Library in Regina, Canada, as a reference librarian. Subsequently, she held the same role with the University of Saskatchewan, the Seattle Public Library, and the Undergraduate Library at the University of Washington. For several years, she has served as a member of the citizen's advisory committee at the Washington State Library.
A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, McGill University, and the University of Washington, Ms. Boland holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Library Sciences, and a Master of Library Sciences. Her professional affiliations include the Washington Library Association and the National Coalition Against Censorship. Notably, she has been recognized many times for her accomplishments. Since 2006, Ms. Boland has been honored in one volume of Who's Who in the World, and three volumes each of Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women. She was also selected for inclusion with the 1974 to 1975 World Who's Who of Women, Volume 2, from Cambridge, Melrose Press, as well as the 1973 Dictionary of International Biography, Volume 9, from A-K Cambridge and Melrose Press.
