Widely regarded as a versatile and experienced educator, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec began a career in education upon graduating from Texas Christian University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 1960 and a Master of Arts in Spanish in 1964. She went on to complete a Ph.D. in leadership in education through Gonzaga University. Her doctoral dissertation was titled, A Translation and Analysis of Rodolfo Usigli's Play, Jano es una muchacha: Jano is a Girl. Usigli is the founder of Mexico's modern theatre movement. Throughout the course of her career, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec has also attended the University of San Carlos, Central Washington State University, Eastern Washington State University, Pan American College and the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, among other institutions.
Drawing upon more than 40 years of experience in education, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec is best known for her focus on literature and language, which includes Spanish and English as a Second Language. She has served as the president of McFarlin-Kosiec Enterprises since 1986. In 1997, she took a position with the East Kootenay School District #5 in Cranbrook, BC; she retired in 2004. She is an active member of Total Quality Management and a former member of the Pasco Education Association, Peninsula Community College Education Association, Columbia Education Association, American Association of University Women and National Education Association, to name a few. In addition, she served as a member of the executive board for the Washington Education Association in 1992. Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec's career achievements include research in advanced statistics and research design. She is also devoted to the total quality management movement, having conducted workshops teaching that philosophy. As a testament to her versatility, she has served as an elementary school educator, secondary school educator, and literature and language professor.
In recognition of her commitment to the field of education, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World. She was also selected for inclusion in the 3rd edition of Who's Who in American Education, as well as the 26th, 27th and 28th editions of Who's Who of American Women, which were published between 2006 and 2010. She has received numerous awards throughout the course of her career, including recognition awards from the Mayor of Othello, Othello City Library and Columbia Basin Community College. A talented writer, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec has written, directed, produced and performed in numerous plays since 1991. She also wrote directed and acted in the original play Windows on Women in 2007. The three act play depicts women representing different socio-economic and marital status. Most recently, she served as the director for How He Lied to her Husband, which was performed at the British Columbia Community Theatre in 2011.
