Dr. Song has been president of the Graduate School of Healthcare Management and Policy at Catholic University of Korea since 2015. He was certified as an orthopedic surgeon by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 1986 and as a hand specialist surgeon by the Korean Society of Surgery of the Hand. Dr. Song has documented everything from trigger wrist to the complete dislocation of the thumb metacarpal, and his research papers form a significant body of research on orthopedics and reconstructive hand surgery.
Born in Youngdong-goon in South Korea, Dr. Song attended the Catholic University of Korea in Seoul to earn a medical degree in 1981, and served to the rank of captain as an army surgeon with the Korean Army's Airborne Special Army. He returned to Catholic University to earn a master's degree in 1990 and a Ph.D. in 1994. Dr. Song received a research fellowship with the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota in 1995. He served with the prestigious research institution for two years. In 2003, Dr. Song returned to the department of orthopedic surgery in Catholic University as a professor, and was certified as a hand specialist two years later. In 2006 he traveled to the Schulthess Klinik in Zurich, Switzerland as a guest director, and in 2013 he was made head professor of the department of orthopedic surgery at Catholic University. He served as president of Yeouido St Mary's Hospital, Catholic University of Korea, from 2013 to 2015.
Dr. Song is a well-regarded medical consultant for hands and upper extremities in Korea, having served with the General Insurance Association of Korea, the Auto Insurance Medical Free Review Council, and the Public Corporation for the Welfare of Laborers. He is current president of the Korean Fracture Society and has served as a director with the Korean Orthopedic Association, the Korean Fracture Society, the Korean Society for Microsurgery, and the Korean Society for Surgery of the Hand. From 2010 to 2016, Dr. Song served as chief editor of the Journal of the Korean Fracture Society. He is a member of the International Federation of Societies for the Surgery of the Hand. He was selected for inclusion in two volumes of Who's Who in the World in 2015 and 2016.
