In 1969, he was a teacher at Fort Collins High School, and he attended law school at the University of Colorado where he received a Juris Doctor in 1973.
Mr. Carlson was certified to practice law by the state of Colorado in 1973. With a JD, he became a Deputy District Attorney for the City of Denver from 1973 to 1975. In 1975, Mr. Carlson was an associate of Moore & Carlson, Fort Collins. He became an associate of Atler, Zall & Haligman in 1976. Mr. Carlson was a partner at Grant, McCarren & Bernard between 1978 and 1984. In 1985, he served as an owner of Hopp, Carlson & Beckmann.
