Having first spent time as a researcher for Seoul National University, the University of Oxford, and the University of California, Berkeley, he has since published more than 40 research papers in journals and in edited books, including articles in leading, high-impact factor field journals in demography, economics, and social science history. Publications that have featured the many works of Dr. Schwekendiek include the Population and Development Review, Economics and Human Biology, and Social Science & Medicine. He has contributed chapters to books such as the Oxford Handbook of Economics and Human Biology and the German Encyclopedia of Early Modern History, and has published six monographs.
A working group member for Becker Friedman Institute of Research in Economics at the University of Chicago since 2012, Dr. Schwekendiek previously served as a project coordinator for the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Family Matters in 2008. He is a current member of the Korean-German Association for Social Sciences, the Association for Asian Studies, and the Royal Asiatic Society Korea Branch.
Dr. Schwekendiek received a PhD in Economics at the University of Tuebingen, Germany. Selected for the Academic Reputation Survey for the Times Higher Education World University Ranking in 2014, he was also awarded a wristwatch by the President of the Republic of Korea in 2005. He has been named to several editions of Who's Who in America and has been named in every edition of Who's Who in the World since 2011.
