A social worker and gerontologist, Ms. Cargill began her career in the field with Connie Maxwell Children's Home in Greenwood, SC, in 1965, while also teaching French in several secondary public school systems. She has experience teaching in higher education at North Greenville College as an instructor of both sociology and French, and as well as a number of roles exclusive to social work, including clinical social worker, social work supervisor, and center director. Having worked for companies like the Grady H. Hipp Nursing Center, the South Carolina Department of Corrections, and the Bon Secours St. Francis Homecare, since 1982, Ms. Cargill has simultaneously found work as a nursing home and rehabilitation consultant for Aging Consultant Services, all the while being employed in other roles. Since 2010, she has also been serving as a French instructor and South Carolina Upstate Senior Band flutist for Senior Action, Inc.
Ms. Cargill has worked diligently to serve her community as well. She has spent time on the board of directors for several organizations, including the Greenville County Alcohol/Drug Abuse Commission, the Greenville County Mental Health Association, and the Upstate Alzheimer's Association.
Holding licenses by the Academy of Certified Social Workers and a license to practice in South Carolina, Ms. Cargill attended Winthrop College, where she earned a BA in Sociology and French in 1965. She then completed a Master of Social Work at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1973, a Master of Social Work at the University of Louisville in 1975, and became a Graduate Specialist in Gerontology at the University of Michigan in 1983.
A long term care administrator, she represented the SC Health Care Association at the 1990 AHCA Convention, Hawaii. She is an alumna of Greenville County Leadership Greenville Class VII, 1980-81. She is also a member of the S.C. Health Care Association and the Alumni Leadership of Greenville. In 1982, Ms. Cargill formed the first Alzheimer's support group in Greenville while also consulting in a group out of Columbia, South Carolina,. Both of these groups evolved into the South Carolina Alzheimer's Association, serving 46 counties as an affiliate of the National Alzheimer's Association.
A 1981 CIF exchange geriatric social worker for La Place du Connetable in Normandy, France, and a 1995 Melvin Jones Fellow, Ms. Cargill has been named to various editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who of American Women. During Ms. Cargill's free time, she loves to travel, study languages, and has taken up basket weaving.
