A tenured educator in his field of expertise, biology professor Dr. Terakado began his career in 1966 as a research associate at the same university where he remains today, Saitama University. Located just north of Tokyo, Saitama University offers undergraduate, graduate, and non-graduate programs for students. After spending 23 years in research, Dr. Terakado moved into the classroom where he began teaching as an associate professor. Enjoying the opportunity, he spent 13 years in this position before advancing to become a full professor in 2002.
Dr. Terakado's extensive research has resulted in multiple developments, one of which includes the findings of a progenitor organ homologous to vertebrate hypothalamo-hypophyseal organ in protochordate ascidians. He has authored many articles in professional journals that have been based on his work in the field, as well as chapters to books. He was the co-author of the third volume of "Microscopic Anatomy of Invertebrate" in 1997, as well as the 1988 book "Introduction to Molecular Cell Biology." He has also been serving as associate editor of Journal Morphology since 2000.
A longtime member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and The New York Academy of Sciences, Dr. Terakado previously served as a representative for The Zoological Society of Japan in 2000 and as a councilor for The Japanese Society of Microscopy from 1991 to 2001. Earning his first degree at Ibaraki University in 1960, he later completed a DSc at The University of Tokyo in 1966. Celebrating his 50-year anniversary to his wife Shoko Terakado in 2018, they have two children. Notably, Dr. Terakado has been highlighted in Who's Who in Asia, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World nearly a dozen times for his work.
