He is also the current chief executive officer of Weightless SIG as well as an independent consultant. Dr. Webb has also contributed over 100 articles to various professional journals, the Wall Street Journal and other prominent publications. Dr. Webb has also co-authored 21 patents.
Born on May 4, 1967 in Walton-on-Thames, England in the United Kingdom, Dr. Webb studied at Southampton University, where he obtained a BEng in 1989, a PhD in 1992, a MBA in 1997, and a DSc in 2015. He continued his studies at Anglia Ruskin, receiving a DTech in 2015. From 1989 to 1993, Dr. Webb was a technical director of Multiple Access Communications Ltd. He also was a principal consultant of Smith System Engineering Ltd from 1993 to 1997.
Between 1997 and 1998, Dr. Webb worked as the head of the wireless local loop division of Netcom Consultants. After this, he became the director of corporate strategy of Motorola until 2001. That year, Dr. Webb started work as a managing consultant in the wireless practice at PA Consulting. From 2003 to 2011, Dr. Webb was the director of technology resources at Ofcom. He then became the chief technical officer of a start-up called Neul.
As an educator, Dr. Webb was a visiting professor at the University of Surrey, Southampton University, and Trinity College. Dr. Webb also published "Modern Quadrature Amplitude Modulation" in 1994, "Introduction to Wireless Local Loop" and "Understanding Cellular Radio" in 1998, "The Complete Wireless Communications Professional" in 1999, "Single and MultiĀCarrier QAM" and "Narrowband and Broadband Wireless Local Loop" in 2000, "The Future of Wireless Communications" in 2001, "Wireless Communications-The Future" and "Essentials of Modern Spectrum Management" in 2007, "Being Mobile: Future Wireless Technologies and Applications" in 2010, "Understanding Weightless" in 2012, "Dynamic White Space Spectrum Access" in 2013, "Spectrum Management: Using the Airwaves for Maximum Social and Economical Benefit" in 2015 and "The 5G Myth" in 2016. Dr. Webb was celebrated as a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Royal Academy of Engineering. From 2014 to 2015, he was the President of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
Dr. Webb has appeared in various Marquis Who's Who publications, including the 56th through 63rd editions of Who's Who in America and the 20th, 21st, and 23rd editions of Who's Who in the World. On June 17, 1995, he married Alison Margaret Porter. The couple raised two children: Katherine and Hannah.
