Francesco "Frank" A. Cipriani Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

An accomplished listee, Dr. Cipriani celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. For 39 years, Dr. Cipriani has served the educational and civic community of Long Island, New York as an education administrator par excellence. He is most proud of his efforts in turning the State University of New York (SUNY) at Farmingdale from a two-year agricultural and technical college into a polytechnical institution granting bachelor's and master's degrees. Dr. Cipriani has helped to maintain the environment and air quality of Long Island through his 20-year participation as chair of the Suffolk County Environmental Quality Council, his membership on the Bi-County Long Island Regional Planning Board which addressed issues of water quality, air quality, economy, and zoning issues of the bi-county region, and as chair of the Long Island Regional Ash Fill Commission. In service to the community, Dr. Cipriani was a trustee of the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and a member of the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council. He was a member of the board of the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind for twelve years, retiring as Chairman of the Board in 1979. In roles related to his work in education, he served as Chair of the Long Island Regional Council on Higher Education. Additionally, he coordinated the evaluation procedures for the Ten Centers for Advanced Technology funded by the State of New York. He was also affiliated with the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools chairing numerous evaluation teams over a period of twenty-five years.

Dr. Cipriani was born in New York City, the son of immigrant parents, Domenico and Maria Cipriani. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School (one of three magnet high schools in New York City), in 1951, and in 1998 was made a charter member of the Brooklyn Tech Alumni Wall of Fame. As an undergraduate, Dr. Cipriani studied political science and engineering, earning a BA degree from Queen's College in 1955. He was inspired to start his career after he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served as a navigator and subsequently a navigation instructor. He left the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Captain in 1958. He married his wife, Judith, in 1959, and they have four children: Mária, Frank, Michael, and Dominique. After his discharge from active duty, he entered into his career as an industrial safety engineer and was employed at New York University (NYU) as the resident Safety Engineer. While working at NYU, he was able to leverage his employee benefits to complete his MA and Ph.D. in Education.

While at NYU, Dr. Cipriani was assigned to the Office of the Vice President of Plant and Properties. In 1964, he accepted a position at SUNY Farmingdale as the Assistant Dean of Continuing Education. He quickly rose through the institution as Executive Assistant to the President, and eventually became Vice President of Administration in 1969. Dr. Cipriani also attained the rank of Professor of History and Political Science. In 1978, Dr. Cipriani was named President of Farmingdale State College. In 2000, he retired, after serving the College for 36 years, 22 as President. In 2013, the main road at Farmingdale College was named for him, and he was also honored with the induction into the Farmingdale College Aviation Hall of Fame in 2016.

Dr. Cipriani has been recognized for his contributions in promoting international, educational, and cultural exchanges. In 1985, he accepted the invitation to visit China in an educational exchange between professors of Farmingdale and the Aerotechnical Institute in Xian. From 1983-1995, he promoted a series of educational and cultural exchanges between the United States and Italy. These activities were recognized in 1993 when he was awarded the title of Cavaliere Ufficiale della Republica Italiana.

Dr. Cipriani was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who Worldwide Registry of Global Business Leaders, and Outstanding Educators of America.
