A retired internal medicine educator and physician, Dr. Maloney wrapped up his career in 2008 after spending more than 60 years in the field. Reaching emeritus status in the Christopher Wren Association at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., Dr. Maloney began his career as a research chemist for Buffalo Electrochemical Company in 1947, the same year that he completed a bachelor's degree at Canisius College. Pursuing his postgraduate degree thereafter, while working full-time, he later completed his MD in 1953 and began his internship with Mercy Hospital/Georgetown University, followed by his residency at Buffalo VA Hospital and a cardiology fellowship at Buffalo General Hospital. Dr. Maloney then continued to spread his wings by accepting a teaching position at the State University of New York (SUNY) in 1961.
Dr. Maloney's tenured career in both medicine and education led to various other academic positions and roles throughout the course of his career. A diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, he served as a member of the internal medicine liaison committee for New York state, on the board of directors for the Internal Medicine Center for Advancement and Research Education's Center for Excellence in Aging and Geriatric Health, and as a senior cancer research physician for the Roswell Park Memorial Cancer Center Institute. He also served on the board of directors of the Virginia Symphony, as a founding member of Greater Williamsburg Virginia Symphony Society, as a member of the president associates for SUNY, on the board of regents for Canisius College, on the executive committee and board of directors of Blue Cross of Western New York, and on the board of directors for Health Systems Agency of Western New York.
In addition to Dr. Maloney's professional commitments, he was active with various organizations relative to his field, including the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Internal Medicine, and as fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He spent several years as the editor for New York State Society of Internal Medicine's newsletter and has been the recipient of numerous awards, including an Award of Merit from the New York State Society of Internal Medicine, a Man of the Year Award from the Heart Association of Western New York, an Excellent Award in Teaching and Art of Medicine from SUNY, and was named to the Sports Hall of Fame by Canisius College due to his involvement on the National Collegiate Athletic Association's All American Collegiate Swimming Team.
In addition to his lauded and prolific career, Dr. Maloney has also been included in approximately 50 editions of Who's Who since 1990. Dr. Maloney with his wife Dione are the parents of five sons, four daughters, twenty grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
