As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A recognized expert in the areas of medical technology, nursing and teaching, Ms. Touretzky takes great pride in the many ways she has helped patients and students throughout the course of her career. She is a Registered Nurse in New Jersey, as well as a certified teacher, certified health education specialist and certified school nurse. She has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in American Nursing.
Prior to pursuing a career in medicine, Ms. Touretzky developed an interest in the sciences at an early age. She was further inspired by her Aunt Muriel, who earned a nursing degree while suffering from an underdeveloped heart condition that had not been diagnosed before her death. Ms. Touretzky received a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Rutgers University in 1966 before attending the University of Missouri, where she received a Master of Science in Biology in 1977.
Upon returning to Rutgers University, Ms. Touretzky completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1986. Ms. Touretzky then accepted a position as the lead nurse of the pediatric unit at St. Michael's Medical Center in Newark, NJ. She went on to serve as an institutional supervisor for the Woodbridge Developmental Center before joining the Regional School Union Campus as a school nurse. Ms. Touretzky enjoyed this position for nearly two decades until her official retirement in 2004. From 1989 to 2005, she also served as a part-time instructor of sciences and pediatric nursing as part of the practical nursing program with the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools.
While working as a school nurse, Ms. Touretzky enjoyed working with developmentally disabled children. One of her greatest joys has been teaching the sciences to practical nursing students and seeing them succeed in their own careers. Dedicated to her community, Ms. Touretzky is known for holding numerous civic and community roles. Additionally, she has written articles for the local newspaper, and provided assistance with computer science and event organization in her gated community.
