Known for performing many complex coronary interventions in the U.S., he has been recognized for having the highest angioplasty success rate and the lowest mortality rate for any interventional cardiologist in the state of New York.

Serving on the Cardiac Advisory Board of New York State since 2004, Dr. Sharma advises the Health Department and governor on issues of health policies and supervision, safety, and appropriateness of heart care by various hospitals in New York. Dr. Sharma is also the vice president of the Rajasthan Development Foundation, where he has donated medical equipment every year from 2001 to 2007 to help Rajasthan's people in need.
Dr. Sharma has been featured on the Today Show and in various publications, to include the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine, Barron's, Forbes, Newsweek, Wash. Awarded with a Cardiology Fellows Appreciation Award in 2009, and a Simon Dack Best Teacher Award for cardiology in 2000, they were both the result of his passion for teaching and training fellows.
Additionally, Dr. Sharma received a Prestigious Award by the Government of India in 2002. a Governor's Award of Excellence in 2006 by New York State for outstanding contributions to medicine, was named One of Top Physicians by Castle Connelly, Consumer Research Council of America, and was named to Best Doctors by U.S. News and World Report.
