Currently employed with Smolin, an accounting firm that offers various tax, accounting, and advisory services as well as litigation support, with four locations across New Jersey, New York, and Florida, Mr. Byer is responsible for providing experienced tax services to clients, as well as counseling high-net worth individuals on wealth management and entrepreneurial issues. He also directs Premier Lifestyle Services, where he provides accounting, tax, and concierge services, including household payroll, cash management, and bill payment.
After first earning a Bachelor's degree at Muhlenberg College in 1979, Mr. Byer began his career as an auditor for the State of New Jersey. He later moved into the private sector, becoming a staff accountant with Louis H. Linowitz and Company. Completing a Master of Business Administration at Rider University in 1986, Mr. Byer continued to move into higher and more challenging positions, including as a tax manager for Price Waterhouse, as partner with Mintz, Rosenfeld & Company, and as partner with J.H. Cohn LLP in New Jersey.
Mr. Byer co-authored a book, "Taxation of Foreign Nationals in the United States," in 1990 before editing another book, "Selecting and Installing Medical Practice Computer Software," in 1996. He has also frequently written articles for Worth Magazine and other business publications and blogs. He is a fellow and co-founder of the Hunterdon-Warren chapter of the New Jersey State Society of CPAs, and is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of CPAs.
Throughout the course of Mr. Byer's career, he has been honored several times, including being named Top 10 Public Accounting Professionals in New Jersey for 2014 to 2015 and America's Top Financial Planners for 2014 to 2015. He has also been featured in several dozen issues of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World. Married since 1981 to Marcy Steier with three children and a granddaughter, Mr. Byer is an avid reader and stamp collector who enjoys computers and music.
