NEW YORK, NY, October 11, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Ellen Rubin a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Ms. Rubin celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Rubin, an independent consultant who has spent more than 50 years in special education, has thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work with so many types of students in different areas of the world. Early in her career, she taught as an assistant teacher for Helen Keller Services for the Blind (formerly Industrial Home for the Blind) in N.Y.C., as a rehabilitation teacher for Lighthouse for the Blind in Haifa, Israel, and as an educational program coordinator for George Simmons Rehabilitation Center for the Blind, Ministry of Welfare, in Beersheva, Israel. She also worked at Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beersheva, the Association for the Advancement of the Blind and Retarded, Inc., the Guild for Exceptional Children, the Computer Center for Visually Impaired People, and, for the bulk of her career, Educational Equity Concepts, Inc., as coordinator of disability programs from 1983 to 2003, in N.Y.C. As unconventional as her teaching career might sound, Ms. Rubin had found her calling and couldn't have imagined working in any other type of classroom.
During her 20 years at Educational Equity Concepts, Inc., Ms. Rubin simultaneously worked as a consultant for numerous organizations and agencies, and in 1996, she also began serving as a part-time coordinator and consultant of international exchange programs for Mobility International USA in Portland, Oregon, with which she is still affiliated. On the advisory committee for the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and a volunteer board member for City Access of N.Y.C., Ms. Rubin is also affiliated with several other professional organizations, such as the Greater N.Y. Counsel of the Blind and the Paratransit Advisory Committee for the MTA's ACCESS-A-Ride. She has served on numerous board of directors, including with Creative Adaptions for Learning, has lectured for the School of Occupational Therapy, University Hospital, Hadassah Medical Center, in Jerusalem, and the Ministry of Welfare in Beersheva, and as a guest lecturer of museum education for Bank Street College of Education in New York.
Throughout her career, Ms. Rubin developed tours for the blind, served as a community liaison for the Beth Israel Methadone Clinic, and was an advisor on the disability advisory committee for the Taxi and Limousine Commission. Ms. Rubin holds a Master of Science in Special Education and a Master of Science in Museum Education from Bank Street College of Education. In 1993, she received a Community Service Award from the Jewish Guild for the Blind. In 2003, she also received an Access Builder Award from Baruch College's Computer Center for Visually Impaired People. She has been included in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Ellen Rubin has been featured on the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievers website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
