Dr. Lytton achieved a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas in 1960, and followed this accomplishment with a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from the same academic establishment in 1961, as well as a doctorate in 1967. Demonstrating impressive professional variety, he has worked in a wide range of positions throughout his career. He became an associate for Dannenbaum and Associates in 1963, following work as a cowhand at Slaughter Ranch, and went on to become a fellow for the U.S. National Science Foundation from 1965 to 1967. He has also worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas as well as an Associate Professor at Texas A and M University, where he became a Professor in 1976 and the Wiley Chair Professor in 1990, a position he maintained for five years.
Continually growing in his field, Dr. Lytton went on to become director of the Center for Infrastructure Engineering at Texas A and M University. He then became head of the Texas Transportation Institute Infrastructure and Transportation Division. In 1995, Dr. Lytton became the Benson Chair Professor at Texas A and M University, a title he still holds today. In addition to his occupational advances, Dr. Lytton has been a keynote lecturer and speaker for various conferences, and has been on the Board of Directors for Lyric Technologies Geostructural Tool Kit, Inc., MLAW Consultants and Engineers, MLA Labs Inc., and ERES Consultants, Inc.
Due to his ever-expanding professional know-how, Dr. Lytton is a Diplomate of Geotechnical Engineering from the American Academy of Geo-Professionals, and has succeeded as a land surveyor and registered professional engineer. He has been recognized for his applications of his patent for system identification analysis of subsurface radar signals, and has been given an assortment of awards, including the Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award in Research and the Faculty Distinguished Teaching Award by the College of Engineering at Texas A and M University. He was named Trendsetter by Public Works Magazine, and maintains memberships and involvement with several professional organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers, among numerous others. He has also been recognized in various editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
