Ambassador General Compo-Pratt taught for 39 and one-half years with Camden City Public Schools as a middle school teacher until 2012 when she stepped back to concentrate on being a writer and artist. She is beloved by students who received her tutelage in New Jersey, and her career has led to many opportunities in her field, as well as the pleasure of instructing so many students.
A native of Camden, NJ, Ambassador General Compo-Pratt was born on December 22, 1950 to Peter Compo and Vera Bush Compo. She was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society in 1966, the National Honor Society in 1967 to 1969, and earned a BA in English with Highest Honors from Rutgers University in 1973. In 1972, she was inducted into the Athenaeum Honor Society. She began teaching in Camden as an eighth grade language arts teacher and obtained a Master's Degree with Highest Honors from The World Academy of Letters in the United States for the teaching of English in Secondary Education in 2006. Over the years, she also served as eighth grade chairperson, writing specialist, advisor to the National Junior Honor Society, and teacher of the academically talented. In 2017, Ambassador General Compo-Pratt received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England, for her many contributions to the teaching of English in secondary education, art, poetry, and children's literature in the U.S. and around the world.
She has received numerous honors over the years from the American Biographical Institute, which established the Paula Anita Compo-Pratt Award Foundation in 2007, and appointed her Sovereign Ambassador General of the United States in 2006. On June 10, 2008, she was inducted into the American Biographical Institute's Great Women of the 21st Century Hall of Fame, and in 2009, she was presented with its Gold Medal for the United States. She serves as a member of the Institute's Research Board of Advisors.
Ambassador General Compo-Pratt graduated from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's Branch Academy of Floral Design in 1983. She is an accomplished floral designer and head designer (she won Creativity and Speed Awards in 1984) who worked in the floral industry from 1983 to 1992. She still does work for various clients throughout her area.
Ambassador General Compo-Pratt has written and illustrated two children's books entitled BooBoo's Story and BooBoo and The Land of Mists and Dreams published by Ivy House Publishers in the United States as well as three books entitled BooBoo Meets Tiger Too Tall, BooBoo and the Valley of Secrets and BooBoo and the Dots published by Melrose Books in Cambridge, England. BooBoo's Story was honored by Cambridge University in England along with 18 others from around the world in a private ceremony, and taken into the Cambridge permanent collection to be preserved for all time. In addition to her work in literature, Ambassador General Compo-Pratt is an accomplished artist with 40 years of experience. She has displayed her work in various shows in the United States, England and Scotland. She paints in a realistic impressionistic style and also does oriental style paintings in watercolor.
Ambassador General Compo-Pratt is a frequent contributor to poetry and literary publications, honored with publication in Who's Who in American Poetry by Eber & Wein Publishing from 2013 to 2015, and again in 2017, as well as in Endless Horizons Daybreak in 2009, and in the company's American Poetry Vol. 1. She is the recipient of Best Poet Awards in 2015, 2016 and 2017, and received a 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award from the United Cultural Convention (which appointed her Ambassador General General of the United States in 2006 and for which she has served as Secretary General since 2007). She was also published in Best Poems and Poets for 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2014, and Surrender to the Moon by The International Library of Poetry in 2005. She was also published in Timeless Voices and Songs of Honor in 2006 by The International Library of Poetry, and in Centres of Expression in 2007 by Noble House. Ambassador General Compo-Pratt received Editor's Choice for Outstanding Achievement Awards in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. The International Society of Poets recognized Ambassador General Compo-Pratt in 2005, 2006 and 2007 with Outstanding Achievement in Poetry Awards. Ambassador General Compo-Pratt has received accolades from the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England (which appointed her Deputy Director General in 2005), The New Jersey State Department for her work with her students in Cognetics, as well as the Camden County Teen Arts Festival and the Young Authors Conferences. She has also been recognized by the director of the Department of Education in Washington, D.C. as early as 1976 as an Outstanding Leader in Elementary and Secondary Education, and in 2005 and 2006 she was named to the Outstanding American Teachers National Honor Roll. Additionally, she received The Governor's Teacher Recognition Award in 1999.
Ambassador General Compo-Pratt supports charities for children, especially St. Labre Indian School, St. Joseph's Indian School and Red Cloud Indian School. She feels it is very important to help provide the best education possible to our most impoverished children living on Indian reservations in the Dakotas and Montana where the children are also taught their native languages, culture, and history. Ambassador General Compo-Pratt interacts with the priests who head these schools and they send her photos, newsletters and letters written by the many children whose lives she has touched. They also send her gifts that tell of their proud culture and traditions.
Ambassador General Compo-Pratt is a founding member of The National Women's History Museum, and The Museum of the American Revolution as well as a Patriot Founder of the New Fort Ticonderoga Association, and a member of the National Museum of the American Indian as well as the N.J. Retirees' Education Association, Camden Education Association, International Poetry Society, and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare. She also sits on the Advisory Council at Rutgers University in Camden for its Student Leadership Institute and is a national associate member of the Smithsonian Institution. Ambassador General Compo-Pratt was selected for inclusion in several volumes each of Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women. She is also listed in the 2005 volume of Leading Educators of the World, the 2005-2007 volumes of International Who's Who in Poetry, the 2005 volume of Great Minds of the 21st Century, the 2005 volume of 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century, and the 1972-1973 volume of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Ambassador General Compo-Pratt is also listed in international Who's Who directories.
She frequently represents her country at World Forums and International Congresses. In 2011, she received the North American Award from the International Biographical Centre and the American Biographical Institute for distinguished intellectual contributions to the 2011 World Forum in San Francisco, CA. In 2013 she was recognized with the USA Award representing the Americas for distinguished intellectual contributions to its World Forum in Cambridge, England. The next year, Ambassador General Compo-Pratt received the Cambridge Certificate in the Teaching of Literature and Writing in the USA from the International Biographical Centre. In 2015 and 2016 the Centre presented Ambassador General Compo-Pratt with the Global Laureate of Education.
She has never stopped working for the betterment and enrichment of our children both here and abroad.
