For nearly two decades, Dr. Verma has written and co-written numerous peer-reviewed original reports, including "Minimally invasive lateral lumbar interbody fusion with direct psoas visualization," "Participation and Supervision of Orthopedic Residents during Spine Surgery: A National Survey and Analysis," and "A review of advances in technology and surgical techniques in spine surgery." He has contributed written work to a variety of medical journals, including the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, American Journal of Orthopaedics and Pan Arab Journal of Neurosurgery. Dr. Verma has also written several non-peer-reviewed reviews, books and book chapters, including "Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery for Thoracic Disc Disease" and "Arthritis & Arthroplasty: The Spine," which were published between 2008 and 2009.
Prior to pursuing a career in medicine, Dr. Verma received a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. He went on to attend the Hahnemann School of Medicine, where he completed a Master of Science in 1997 and an MD in 2001. Between 2001 and 2006, Dr. Verma completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopaedics through the North Shore and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He briefly relocated to California, where he completed a clinical fellowship in spine under Carl Lauryssen at the Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical Spine Institute between 2006 and 2007.
In addition to maintaining several hospital appointments, Dr. Verma is also a respected educator in the medical community. Since 2010, he has presented select cases to residents, physicians and physical therapists located throughout New York. Additionally, he has presented at numerous conferences, such as the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Spine Arthroplasty Society and North American Spine Society. Noted for his dedication to patient care, Dr. Verma has been involved with a spine surgery support group since 2012.
