NEBO, NC, October 18, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Sandra Kay Warren with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Warren celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Noted for her eclectic writing tastes, Ms. Warren has published more than a dozen books across a wide range of genres. Some of her most recent works include "Spivey's Web" (coming in 2017), "We Bought A WWII Bomber: The Untold Story of a Michigan High School, a B-17 Bomber & The Blue Ridge Parkway," and "Arlie the Alligator Story-Song Picture Book," which was revised for an updated release in 2013. Initially published in 1993, the book afforded Ms. Warren the opportunity to work with a songwriter, actors and a technical/music engineer as she wrote and produced a CD and DVD of the story. This experience led to the production of three educational videos for gifted parents and educators.
A respected authority in the fields of publishing and gifted education, Ms. Warren has presented workshops, lectures and keynotes throughout the United States, in British Columbia and London, England, on a variety of subjects. Her work in the area of gifted education has led her to deliver presentations at multiple regional, national and international gifted conferences. In an effort to remain active and engaged in her fields of expertise, Ms. Warren maintains involvement with the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators of the Carolinas (SCBWIC). She was previously named an honorary lifetime member of the Ohio Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc., in 1991.
Prior to pursuing a career in publishing, Ms. Warren never aspired to be a writer and, in fact, hated the subject in school. It wasn't until one of her three daughters began having trouble that she decided to write. That daughter's educational needs and subsequent advocacy work ushered Ms. Warren into the field of gifted education, which led to the publication of her first book, "If I Were A Road." This open-ended story book, with activities designed to enhance creative thinking, along with two others in the series, "If I Were A Table" and "The Great Bridge Lowering," are still used in the classroom today, more than 35 years later.
In 2016, she was named a Next Generation Indie Book Award Finalist in recognition of one of her most recent works, "We Bought A WWII Bomber: The Untold Story of a Michigan High School, a B-17 Bomber & The Blue Ridge Parkway." Published in 2015, this book tells the true tale of the extraordinary accomplishments of junior high and high school students who initiated sales of United States War Bonds and War Loan Stamps totaling more than $375,000 and bought a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber to aid pilots in the war. This story resulted in the placement of a historical marker on The Blue Ridge Parkway.
Ms. Warren considers herself fortunate to be published in multiple additional formats, including magazines, journals, newspapers, audio (cassette and CD) and video (VHS, DVD) on topics spanning children's, gifted education, parenting, how-to, poetry, educational activity guides and memoir/biography for adults, as well as children's picture books. Ms. Warren's interests have led her to author two screenplays, a historical fiction novel for adults, as well as one for middle grade students, and a picture book manuscript in process.
Not one to turn down an opportunity, Ms. Warren ventured into the memoir/biography genre after being approached by two Army Reserve Nurses who served in the Persian Gulf War. Their stories are told in "When Duty Called: Even Grandma Had To Go" and "Hidden Casualties: Battles On The Home Front," which were published between 2003 and 2004.
Ms. Warren holds an Associate's degree in Home Economics Education from Grand Rapids Community College and Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education from Michigan State University. Her most recent work, "She Started It," is scheduled for release in 2018.
In recognition of her contributions to the education community, Ms. Warren has been featured in a wide range of publications, including Who's Who in the Media and Communication, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who of American Women.
